At the beginning of 2014, all of the Hearst Digital Media websites underwent significant back-end and front-end redesigns. One of the significant additions was a banner area at the top of each page, which could both be used to foster brand identity and as a space to sell to advertisers. The spaces could support both video and photo media. I was approached in July of 2014 to create video banners for Cosmopolitan, Popular Mechanics, Road & Track, Delish.com, and Red Book. The creative process was unique for each brand, however, the specs were the same: each banner had to both look nice AND remain under .5mb.
